If you’ve been keeping up to date on our website recently, you may have spotted that we now stock 1980’s Burberry scarves that will make the perfect finishing touch to your smart-casual outfit.
Designed for men, each of the scarves we stock are designed in the brand’s iconic Burberry check that has been copied and used within the fashion industry for generations.
Created in England, Burberry is a brand that has truly stood the test of time since the 1800s when Thomas Burberry; a 21-year-old from Surrey became a draper’s apprentice and thought he would try his hand at opening his very own shop in Basingstoke, Hampshire. He initially started out in the production of outdoor clothing.
In 1880, Burberry designed gabardine; a waterproof and breathable fabric used to make trench coats and similar garments, which are still in production today. Instead of outerwear pieces which had previously been heavy and rather uncomfortable for everyday wear, gabardine was an innovation in the creation of garments for rainy weather.
In 1912, the very first trench coat was created which was created from the gabardine material and fastened at the waist by a belt. The name of the garment gives away what the coat was actually used for – of course, it was worn by soldiers during the first world war. You can purchase Burberry trench coats here.
It was, however, in 1920 that the Burberry pattern was recognised as a trademark and used when creating trench coats during this era.
Due to the popularity of the brand, the Burberry brand has become a worldwide name with stores and franchises throughout the world.
